Dr. Benny Hand and his wife Dr. Nelda Hand are senior
pastors of Believers Church in Auburn, Al. They have three
children who have all left the nest. Their oldest son is an
associate pastor at Believers Church.
Pastor Hand and Nelda Knight were married on May 29,
1960. A week later they moved to Auburn and attended
Auburn Univ. After receiving their BS degrees they both
served many years as teachers in the public school system,
private schools and Christian schools. Pastor Hand also
served as a school principal and was a civilian teacher
for the military during the Vietnam War.
In 1972 Pastor Hand was ordained and became a
Southern Baptist Pastor. He was the fourth generation
Southern Baptist Pastor in his family. He received the
Baptism of the Holy Spirit on August 18, 1974 and Nelda
received it a year later. They moved to Nicaragua as miss-
ionaries in 1975 where he and Nelda spent three years.
In 1978 they transferred and served two years as miss-
ionaries to Guatemala. In 1980 they transferred to Mexico
and served five more years on the mission field. In 1985
they returned to Alabama and started Believers Church
with eight members.
In the 1990's they received their master and doctorate
degrees in theology from Beacon University.
